"Global Efforts to Combat Islamophobia: UN Backs Pakistan's Call for Action

In a landmark decision, the United Nations has approved a resolution spearheaded by Pakistan to combat Islamophobia, marking a significant step towards addressing discrimination and violence against Muslims on a global scale. The resolution, which received widespread support from member states, emphasizes the urgent need for collective action to counter the growing threat of Islamophobia and promote international peace and security.

Central to the resolution is a call for the appointment of a special envoy by the UN secretary-general to lead efforts in combating Islamophobia, underscoring the importance of concerted measures to tackle this pervasive issue. By addressing the root causes and manifestations of Islamophobia, the international community aims to foster a climate of mutual respect and harmony among nations.

The resolution garnered overwhelming support, with 113 member states voting in favor of its adoption, signaling a strong consensus on the imperative of addressing Islamophobia. However, the decision of 44 countries, including India, to abstain from the voting process raises questions about their commitment to combating Islamophobia and promoting religious tolerance on a global scale.

Meanwhile, on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for unity in the fight against intolerance and bigotry, highlighting the damaging impact of hate speech and religious-based harassment. Guterres emphasized the need to stand together to eradicate anti-Muslim sentiments and uphold inclusivity and respect for all communities worldwide.
