Government's Focus Should Be Governance, Not Business Ventures: PM's Assertion

 

In a resolute address at the Khatoon-e-Pakistan Awards Ceremony, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the government's role as a facilitator rather than a business entity. He underscored the importance of enhancing the tax net while ensuring fairness and cracking down on tax evasion.

Controlling inflation stood out as a paramount objective for his administration, aimed at shielding the populace from economic pressures. Sharif announced a substantial relief package to combat price fluctuations and ensure essential items' availability, stressing the government's duty to support the provinces in providing relief to the masses.

The prime minister called for unity in tackling corruption, inflation, and economic hurdles, urging his team to work diligently and make sacrifices for the nation's welfare. He highlighted the need to break free from dependency and work diligently towards self-sufficiency, dismissing the notion of quick fixes in favor of hard work and dedication.

Sharif's directives included the formation of a price control committee and measures against hoarding, along with a temporary ban on banana and onion exports to ensure ample supply during Ramazan. Additionally, significant appointments were made, such as Major General Abdul Moeed as Director General of the Anti-Narcotics Force.

Addressing disparities in resource distribution, Sharif emphasized the need for accountability and efficiency, promising recognition for honest officials and consequences for wrongdoers. He outlined a comprehensive overhaul of the system, aiming to address deep-rooted issues and inefficiencies.

The prime minister highlighted challenges such as electricity theft and inefficiencies in state-owned enterprises, stressing the need to eliminate subsidies benefiting the elite class. He called for a shift towards sustainable practices and equitable resource allocation to drive economic progress.

In a bid to revamp the tax system and combat leakages, Sharif emphasized the importance of addressing tax evasion and ensuring fair collection practices. The government's commitment to transparency, accountability, and efficiency was underscored as essential in overcoming the country's economic challenges.

The newly appointed cabinet members, including key figures like Senator Ishaq Dar and Khawaja Muhammad Asif, were tasked with pivotal roles in shaping the nation's future. With a focus on unity, transparency, and hard work, Prime Minister Sharif set the tone for a transformative period aimed at addressing pressing economic and social issues facing Pakistan.
