Scorching Heat Wave Strikes Japan: Record Temperatures and Health Warnings

Tokyo, Japan  - Japan is experiencing an unprecedented heatwave, with Sano in Tochigi Prefecture recording a blistering 41.0 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature in the country this year. Six locations, including Tenryu in Shizuoka Prefecture and Kumagaya in Saitama Prefecture, have seen temperatures soar above 40 degrees Celsius, prompting widespread health warnings and an increase in heat stroke cases.

In central Tokyo, temperatures hit 37.3 degrees Celsius, leaving both locals and tourists struggling to cope with the extreme heat. "It's so hot, it's almost unbearable," said a visitor in Asakusa. The oppressive heat has led to an uptick in emergency hospital visits, with 16 people in the Kanto region being treated for suspected heat stroke by 5 p.m. today.

High pressure systems covering the Kanto and Tokai regions are responsible for the "disaster-level" heat, with no immediate relief in sight. Authorities are urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and use cooling measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.
